HATCHET MAN: It's a shame Hull, Newcastle, Sunderland and Middlesbrough can't all go down - at least

The relegation picture is as fascinating as ever this season, but does anyone else feel disappointed by the way the bottom three are shaping up? Of the five clubs still involved in relegation issues (their meek submissions don't qualify to be described as a battle) the only team who are already consigned to the drop are the ones who haven't been mismanaged. Maybe West Bromwich Albion are going down because that is what they expected and budgeted for, but at least were pushing for survival at the end. Middlesbrough, Newcastle, Hull and Sunderland are clearly all more deserving candidates to be swept under. Three of those four have wasted large fortunes on bad buys and lacked any sort of sensible direction from their boards. Hull deserve to go down because they got seriously carried away with themselves this season and failed to rein in their narcissistic manager Phil Brown. So there will be sadness on Sunday when the relegation issues are resolved, but not because big or well supported clubs are lost to the Championship. Keeping two of the North-East's shameful quartet in the Premier League will be the real shame.
