New role: Ex-Middlesbrough boss Southgate[LNB]Seven months after a bad day in Bloemfontein, Sir Trevor Brooking will deliver a 25-point plan designed to make England better at winning World Cup matches. [LNB]It revolves around trying to improve the technical quality of youngsters and strengthening the coaching system, with Gareth Southgate expected to be added to England's coaching team to work across the younger age groups. [LNB]It also includes a vow from the FA to get tough in club-v-country skirmishes because Brooking's Young Player Development Review will demand the release of players for competitive internationals for all age groups from Under 16 to Under 21.[LNB] The first test of nerve will come this summer when Stuart Pearce selects his Under 21 squad for the European Championship in Denmark. Pearce is on a collision course with Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger over Jack Wilshere. [LNB]Brooking, the FA's director of football development, said: 'It's about getting tournament experience against some of the best teams in Europe and the clubs will get the benefit of that experience because they will get a better player coming back to them.'
