Folan surprised by Brown

Caleb Folan has told skysports.com of his surprise at criticism from Hull City manager Phi Brown. The striker has joined Championship outfit Middlesbrough on a three-month loan with a view to a permanent deal. Brown allowed Folan to leave after admitting he had been less than impressed with the forward's displays this season. The Republic of Ireland player now hopes to prove the Tigers boss wrong by impressing Boro chief Gareth Southgate and international manager Giovanni Trapattoni. "I was a bit surprised to hear the manager's comments, but I understand they may have been taken out of context," Folan told skysports.com. "From my point of view, I just hope to do well for Boro, make the move permanent and be playing Premier League football with them next season. "Like everyone else in football, managers have different opinions. "Phil Brown has made his clear. But I can take consolation in the different opinions shown by Gareth Southgate and Giovanni Trapattoni."
