Dire display irks Boateng

Middlesbrough captain George Boateng has demanded a massive improvement on Saturday's display against Aston Villa when Gareth Southgate's side travel to Merseyside to play Liverpool. Inconsistent Boro produced one of their poorest performances of the season when they crashed to a 3-1 home defeat to Villa, and Boateng is keen to avoid a repeat display at Anfield. He told the Evening Gazette: "There's no hiding from that performance. It's not what we're about. "We go to Anfield looking for a performance and a result which will rectify what happened on Saturday. "After the West Ham game we needed a shake-up and we showed against Watford that sometimes a setback can do you good. Now we're in that position again. "We have tough games coming up, starting at Liverpool, but sometimes we do it the hard way. "We sometimes raise our game against the big teams and that's what we must do at Liverpool."
