Digard faces lengthy lay-off
23 Feb 2009 - 16:53:08
Middlesbrough midfielder Didier Digard's season could be over after it was revealed that he suffered injuries to his left leg and right knee during Saturday's goalless draw with Wigan Athletic.
The Frenchman has been told he faces a 12-week lay-off after an orthopaedic specialist confirmed on Monday that he had sustained a partial rupture to the quadriceps muscle of his left leg and a partial tear to the medial ligament of his right knee.
The 22-year-old picked up the injury in a tackle by former Boro star Lee Cattermole and had to leave the pitch on a stretcher.
After the match Boro boss Gareth Southgate had said: "If I'm on their side I'd be thinking he's timed it just about right to be able to take everything.
"Unfortunately Didier turned into him and got caught.
"We've looked at it a few times and Cattermole was first to the ball.
"Obviously Didier fell awkwardly as the players came together as a result of the challenge and he's come out of it with the injury.
"We were still very much on top for the rest of the first half after Didier went off but after half-time we were flat and we weren't able to create enough to get going again."
