Digard flummoxed by Boro struggle

Middlesbrough midfielder Didier Digard cannot believe the club has been plunged into a fight for its Barclays Premier League life. The 22-year-old Frenchman arrived at the Riverside Stadium in a £4million move from Paris St Germain in July last year and set about the task of establishing himself in English football with a side hoping to break into the top 10. However, with just three games of the season remaining, he and his team-mates find themselves facing a derby trip to Newcastle on Monday night which could effectively condemn them to life in the Coca-Cola Championship. It is a far cry from what Digard, or for that matter, anyone else on Teesside, expected from a campaign which started in such a positive mood. Digard said: "I am very surprised because at the start of the season we felt we had a good staff and some good players, so it is hard. But when you lose two, three, four games on the trot, in your head it is hard. "After that confidence is not there and it is hard. But I am not afraid in this situation because I know we have good enough players to stay in the Premier League."
