Darlington have signed talented young winger Nathan Porritt on loan from Championship side Middlesbrough. Quakers boss Colin Todd has moved to bolster his options with the North East side currently at the foot of League Two following back-to-back defeats. Porritt, who is regarded as one of the brightest young stars on the books at the Riverside, will spend the next 28 days at the Darlington Arena. Todd's assistant Dean Windass confirmed that the England Under-19 international was in contention for Tuesday's home clash with Crewe. Windass told skysports.com: "We want competition for places. "He's come in on a 28-day loan, just to see how he is. He's played reserve team football for Middlesbrough. "It gives the lads an opportunity to kick-start their football career. Don't play reserve team football, play first-team football and he'll get the opportunity at Darlington. "He will be available for tomorrow tonight." Meanwhile, Windass confirmed that the Quakers will not be offering a contract to former Hartlepool goalkeeper Jan Budtz. The Dane was handed the opportunity to train with Darlington after his contract with Pools ended, but they do not have the finances to add him to their squad. Windass added: "He's come in for training, but we can't do anything with Jan. It's a non-starter, the budget is tight now."
