Coyne to get Boro debut

Gareth Southgate has confirmed that Danny Coyne will make his Middlesbrough debut on Friday. Boro kick off their Championship campaign live on Sky Sports this Friday as they host Sheffield United at The Riverside in the season's opener. Coyne joined Boro in the summer on a Bosman move from Tranmere and he was expected to provide competition for number one Brad Jones. But Australian international Jones has shoulder and knee injuries which will sideline him for three weeks. That now opens the door for Coyne, who will be preferred ahead of England Under 19 captain Jason Steele. "We think Brad will be out for three weeks, so that's not ideal," said Southgate. "But that's why we brought Danny Coyne in with his experience. He's played for his country, he's played in big matches and he's a good talker. "We've also got Jason Steele who we feel has got a big future ahead of him, so there's a good balance and cover there. "I'll be surprised if any other club in this division has three keepers as good as ours." Coyne could be one of three debutants on Friday with winger Mark Yeates in contention to start, and Leroy Lita expected to finalise his move to Teesside in the next 24 hours.
