Coyne targets No 1 spot

Goalkeeper Danny Coyne has warned he has not joined Middlesbrough simply to sit on the bench. The 35-year-old has been recruited on a free transfer from Tranmere to provide competition for number one Brad Jones and youngster Jason Steele following Ross Turnbull's departure for Chelsea, but the Wales international is intent on forcing his way into Gareth Southgate's side. "I'm here to make competition, that's why the manager brought me in," Coyne said. "I'm not going to just come here and be happy to sit on the bench. I want to play like everybody else, but I'm not going to moan about it if I don't. "I'll just work that much harder to try to get in and if that helps Brad along the way, then great. It's all about competition for places and like we keep saying, the main aim is promotion as a squad."
