Wigan Athletic owner Dave Whelan has hit back at suggestions thatdisgraced striker Marlon King should be allowed a career after hisrelease from prison by calling on the Football Association to ban himfor twice as long as his 18-month jail term.[LNB]King, jailed onThursday after being found guilty of sexual assault and actual bodilyharm, yesterday received support of sorts from Arsenal manager ArseneWenger, who suggested people will look to sign the 29-year-old when heis a free man.[LNB]But Whelan, who has already declared his intentionto sack King, came out fighting again last night when he labelled theplayer a convict and revealed that he was surprised when former managerSteve Bruce signed him in 2008.[LNB][LNB]Bad boy: King has a string of previous convictions[LNB]Whelan told Sky Sports News: 'I do not want convicts at WiganAthletic. Some club will sign him when he gets out they'll take therisk. But they shouldn't.[LNB]'The FA should stop him playing professional football for 18 months after he has served his sentence.[LNB]'Theyshould ask themselves if we want people with criminal records like thislad, especially with the type of crime he has committed over hiscareer. This is not just a one off.[LNB]'They should say: 'Well wehave had enough of that'. I can't see him coming back. He is absolutelysacked. We will not tolerate this kind of behaviour.[LNB]'It will bevery, very difficult for any club to stick their neck out and takeMarlon on. I cannot really see him coming back as a professional. A lotof people will say you do something wrong and you get a sentence andwhen you have completed it you are allowed back in. But I wouldn'tallow him back in.[LNB]'I think it was Steve Bruce who signed him forus and I was a little bit surprised. I knew he had some form in thepast. Steve sometimes thinks he can settle these lads down and get themto go on the straight and narrow.[LNB]  DM.has("poll", {id: "rcp"});
