Northampton have completed the signing of John Johnson on a one-month loan deal from Middlesbrough. The 21-year-old can play at right-back, centre-back or in midfield and made his first-team debut for Boro against Chelsea in October 2008. Johnson has since gone on to play five games on loan with Tranmere last December and Cobblers caretaker boss Ian Sampson is delighted with his arrival. Sampson said: "John is a tough lad with a very good attitude and we are pleased to have him here. "He is a very good footballer and a player who I think will improve the squad. "He jumped at the chance to come here and that is important. He is keen to come here, get stuck in and do well for us." Meanwhile, Northampton have also completed the signing of striker Courtney Herbert from Long Buckby after a successful trial period with the club. The Cobblers are able to complete the signing outside the transfer window as Long Bucky play at a level that is not bound by such regulations. Herbert, 20, has featured in two reserve matches, scoring once, during a two-week spell with the club.
