Newcastle United moved top of the Championship table after previous leaders West Bromwich Albion suffered a shock defeat at home as Middlesbrough were denied three points by a last-minute equaliser. Preston North End moved into third in the table after ending Leicester City's unbeaten home record, while Blackpool have moved into the top six. Swansea City and Queens Park Rangers both won at home for the first time this season, but Reading are still waiting to pick up three points on their own patch. Kevin Nolan struck a hat-trick as Newcastle piled further misery on Ipswich Town manager Roy Keane courtesy of a 4-0 win at Portman Road. Alassane N'Diaye scored the only goal of the game at The Hawthorns as Crystal Palace claimed a surprise 1-0 win at leaders West Brom. Leon Best hit an injury-time equaliser as Coventry City came back from two goals down to salvage a 2-2 draw at home to high-flying Middlesbrough. Leicester's lengthy unbeaten record at the Walkers Stadium came to an end as goals from Neil Mellor and Richard Chaplow secured a 2-1 win for in-form Preston. Reading are still awaiting a win at the Madejski Stadium as Brendan Rodgers' first game against former club Watford finished in a 1-1 draw. Thomas Butler scored an 82nd minute winner as Swansea hung on with nine men to inflict a 2-1 defeat on Sheffield United at the Liberty Stadium. Early goals from Jason Euell and Hameur Bouazza continued Blackpool's fine run of form courtesy of a 2-0 home success over Peterborough United. Sheffield Wednesday picked up a second Championship win at Hillsborough this season after a 3-1 triumph over Cardiff City. Gary Teale grabbed an 85th minute winner as Derby County overcame Bristol City 1-0 at Pride Park, with the visitors having Jamie McCombe sent off early in the second half. Queens Park Rangers recorded a first league win at Loftus Road this season as Jim Magilton's side battered Barnsley 5-2. Grant McCann converted a last-minute penalty as Scunthorpe United battled back from two goals down to draw 2-2 at home with Doncaster Rovers, who had two men sent off.
