CELTIC defender Gary Caldwell is on the verge of leaving former boss Gordon Strachan frustrated by joining Wigan Athletic instead of Middlesbrough.[LNB] Northern Echo Sport understands that after much deliberation, Caldwell has taken a u-turn and is ready to join the Latics.[LNB] Strachan, who has been looking to be reunited with his former defender since taking over at the Riverside, is now having to reassess his options.[LNB] Middlesbrough had been confident of landing the Scotland international after holding talks.[LNB] But now Caldwell is ready to commit to Wigan, where he has been attracted by the prospect of playing in the Premier League this season.[LNB] The collapse of his move to Middlesbrough means some last minute haggling with Celtic for Barry Robson.[LNB] Robson was part of a £1.6m deal for both players, but now the two clubs will have to reach an agreement over Robson on his own.[LNB] It is a situation that should be sorted out quickly, with Willo Flood and Chris Killen both expected to join him on Teesside.[LNB] Strachan, though, will now be on the look out for another defender, unless he makes one last attempt to offer Caldwell more money to join Middlesbrough instead.[LNB]
