Bruce lines up 5m switch to take Boro defender Wheater to Sunderland

On the up: Wheater could be back in the top flight Sunderland manager Steve Bruce is preparing a £5million move for Middlesbrough defender David Wheater after running out of patience with Anton Ferdinand. Bruce looks set to sign 22-year-old Wheater on loan in January before a £4m permanent transfer, according to The Sun. The fee could rise by £1m based on incentives.
