Boro to replace Mido with Lita

Middlesbrough have swooped to sign Leroy Lita on a free transfer, after confirming that Mido is to leave the Riverside Stadium.

The former England Under-21 international striker arrives at the club as a free agent following his release from Reading at the end of last season.

The 24-year-old arrives as a replacement for Mido, who is to join Egyptian side Zamalek on a season-long loan.

Tuncay and Afonso Alves are also set to leave the club, so Boro boss Gareth Southgate is short of cover up front ahead of the opening Championship game of the season against Sheffield United on Friday.

Meanwhile, goalkeeper Brad Jones will be sidelined for three weeks with an ankle knock.
