Boro to keep hold of Bent

Middlesbrough have extended the loan stay of Birmingham City striker Marcus Bent by a further two weeks.

The 31-year-old has failed to find the net in seven appearances for Boro, but will stay on at the Riverside for the time being.

Meanwhile, Boro boss Gordon Strachan is adamant that he needs to bring in a number of new players to bolster his squad.

He told the club's official website: "We've been trying hard and we're getting closer now. I'm close to getting some players in that there's no doubt this club would benefit from.

"It has to be done. I know what I'd like in terms of numbers and characters, so I'll try and get as many good players in as I can."
