Middlesbrough manager Gareth Southgate remains confident that he will win the race to sign Tottenham striker Mido.
Sunderland are believed to have offered Spurs £7million for the Egypt international but Mido is still reported to prefer a move to Teesside.
Southgate told the Evening Gazette: "Negotiations are ongoing. We are still very keen to do it. I think Mido is in the same mind.
"We thought that it was already done last week but there has been a little bit of a twist in it, and so discussions are carrying on."
Mido has scored 19 goals in 61 appearances for Martin Jol's side.
Southgate has also been linked with Lyon striker Milan Baros after losing Mark Viduka to Newcastle United earlier in the summer.
Yakubu has also been reported to be keen to leave the Riverside Stadium recently.
