Boro resigned to losing Tuncay

Middlesbrough manager Gareth Southgate has admitted he expects Sanli Tuncay to leave the Riverside Stadium before the end of the transfer window.

The Turkey striker has been linked with a move away from the club since they were relegated to the Championship last season.

And the Boro boss has admitted he is resigned to losing the 27-year-old.

"We haven't had any bids for him but while we have him, I want to make the best use of him," Southgate told BBC Tees.

"Unfortunately we don't expect to have Tuncay beyond the end of this month."

Tuncay was one of a limited number of players to emerge from Boro's relegation season with any credit.

He has scored 15 league goals in 67 appearances since 2007.

Southgate also expects Brazilian flop Afonso Alves to depart the club before the end of the transfer window.
