Boro plan Turnbull talks
11 Nov 2008 - 07:28:59
Middlesbrough boss Gareth Southgate has opened new contract talks with in-form goalkeeper Ross Turnbull.
The 23-year-old has made the number one shirt his own this season since the departure of Mark Schwarzer in the summer and was particularly impressive in the recent games against West Ham United and Aston Villa.
Southgate also plans to offer second-choice shot-stopper Brad Jones a new contract, telling the Evening Gazette: "We've started to talk.
"Both goalkeepers are in the same position and both feel they have a future with us. We're starting to make progress. Discussions will be ongoing.
"Ross was shown more and more confidence as he continues to get games under his belt. He has responded to the challenge."
Turnbull has made 16 Premier League appearances for Boro while Australian Jones has started on 31 occasions.
