Boro pair go under the knife
28 May 2009 - 15:53:45
Middlesbrough defenders David Wheater and Chris Riggott have both undergone successful post-season operations.
Wheater, 22, went under the knife on Thursday to repair a torn knee cartilage.
Meanwhile, Riggott has undergone successful ankle surgery after being sidelined since February with the problem.
"(Wheater) has needed an operation to repair a cartilage tear for a few weeks, but was determined to play on and do his best to help Boro avoid relegation - an ultimately unsuccessful task," read a club statement.
"This morning's surgery was a complete success and Wheater is expected to be ready to return to pre-season training."
