Boro may move for Smith

Reports on Teesside suggest that Middlesbrough have launched a bid to sign unsettled Manchester United striker Alan Smith.
The former Leeds United star said earlier this month that he was unsure whether United boss Sir Alex Ferguson wanted him to stay at Old Trafford, fuelling speculation that the 26-year-old England international would be moving this summer.
"If they're going to sell me, I'd like to know. But I won't find out unless I get to speak to the manager," he told The Sun last week.
"If you're no longer wanted, then you have to consider your options.
"If the manager tells me he wants me, I'm there for him. If he says he doesn't, it's time to move on.
"He didn't say anything to me at the end of the season. We played the FA Cup final, went home the next day and that was it."
Smith has scored 12 goals in 93 appearances for United since moving to Old Trafford from Leeds three years ago for £7million.
Boro have already lost Mark Viduka to Newcastle United this summer while Yakubu is being linked with a return to Portsmouth.
Boss Gareth Southgate has agreed deals to sign Turkey international Tuncay Sunli and Jeremie Aliadiere from Arsenal.
