Boro facing McDonald blow

Middlesbrough could be without striker Scott McDonald for some time as he continues to be bothered by a groin injury.

The 26-year-old Australia international has yet to score in four appearances for Boro since his move from Celtic, but manager Gordon Strachan now fears that McDonald could be sidelined for a while.

He told the Evening Gazette: "Scott had an operation in January and it has never really cleared up. He has been feeling discomfort ever since he started playing again.

"To be honest, Scott probably pushed himself too early, but then he's such an enthusiastic player. He wanted to come here and do well from the start.

"He's been to see a specialist and we are sifting through the advice that has been given."
