Middlesbrough manager Gareth Southgate has warned his current squad not to expect a number of new faces to arrive at the Riverside during the January transfer window.
A 2-0 home defeat by Everton left Boro still looking nervously over their shoulders at the relegation places, with Southgate aware that his squad is being stretched to the limit at the moment.
He told the Northern Echo: "I've no idea how important the transfer window is.
"Our attitude is to stay positive, we can't affect things out of our control and I've stopped them from talking about possible new signings coming in.
"New signings will give us a lift, but I can't put my hand on my heart and say we'll have them coming in and that it will definitely happen.
"In the meantime we have to get the maximum out of those available. That is the toughest challenge and that will enable us to finish where we are in the league or a bit higher.
"We'll have to see who is available and who will be in our price-range."
