Middlesbrough are on the verge of signing South Korean striker Lee Dong-Gook from Pohang Steelers.
Boro have reached an agreement with the 27-year-old's club and the forward will now move to the Riverside Stadium, subject to the granting of a work permit.
Lee Dong-Gook starred for his country in the 1998 World Cup and his performances in France helped him to seal a move to Werder Bremen.
However, he spent most of his time on the substitute's bench during his spell with the Bundesliga outfit and he failed to make Guud Hiddink's squad for the 2002 World Cup.
A serious knee injury also forced him to miss last summer's tournament in Germany, but he has now returned to full fitness and has spent the last three weeks training with Boro.
