Boro rule out homegrown sales
Middlesbrough have ruled out cashing in on any of their homegrown stars in the January transfer window.
Boro have seen a number of first-team regulars depart the Riverside following their relegation to the Championship, including Stewart Downing, Robert Huth and Tuncay.
David Wheater is also reportedly a player on a number of Premier League clubs' radars while Adam Johnson's lively displays this term have been attracting attention.
Chairman Steve Gibson has confirmed the club have fielded offers for England Under-21 international Wheater, however, he is a player the club are not looking to sell.
"We don't want to sell out our homegrown players and some of these players are very dear to us," Gibson told the Evening Gazette.
"We had a lot of offers for players. What makes the headlines is the offers that we've taken, but there were a lot of offers that we haven't taken."
When quizzed whether Boro had knocked back bids for Wheater, Gibson replied: "Yes, sure. But we just don't want to consider selling David."
