Boro hopeful on Johnson

Middlesbrough are hoping to persuade Adam Johnson to extend his association with the club. The winger has been in fine form this season, helping Boro make a bright start to their 2009/10 campaign. The North East outfit are looking to bounce back into the Premier League at the first time of asking and are desperate to retain the services of their key men. Having parted with the likes of Stewart Downing, Robert Huth and Tuncay Sanli over the summer, Boro are hoping the exodus of top talent is now over. With that in mind they are keen to tie England U21 ace Johnson down on fresh terms, as his current deal is set to expire next summer. "We certainly don't want Adam, or any of our other good young players, to leave," said Boro chief executive Keith Lamb. "The reality is that we have been talking to Adam and his parents over a new contract for six months and more. "I can't guarantee that he is going to stay. What I can guarantee is that we will do our very best to get him to stay."
