Alves boost for Teessiders

Middlesbrough expect striker Afonso Alves to be ready for the start of pre-season training.
The Brazilian club record signing missed the closing weeks of the last campaign with a broken foot, but is on course to begin pre-season training on July 6.
Alves has scored 13 goals in 47 league and cup appearances since joining Boro from Heerenveen in a £12million deal in January 2008.
Meanwhile, Boro boss Gareth Southgate also expects David Wheater to be fit for the start of the new Championship season.
The defender was been under the knife in a bid to cure a long-running knee problem during the close season.
