Alves switch confirmed
Afonso Alves has officially completed his move from Middlesbrough to Qatari outfit Al Sadd.
The Brazilian was believed to have sealed a switch last week, and was pictured at an unveiling ceremony with his new employers.
Boro, though, claimed on Friday that the necessary paperwork required in order to finalise the move had not gone through.
However, Al Sadd have now confirmed that the 28-year-old striker has penned a three-year contract and joins for an undisclosed fee.
Alves endured a frustrating 18 months on Teesside after becoming Boro's record signing when he moved from Heerenveen for £12.7million in January 2008.
Honour
He managed just 10 Premier League goals in 42 appearances for Gareth Southgate's side, but is already looking forward to rediscovering his touch in the Qatar top flight.
"It's a great honour for me to join a good team like Al Sadd who are one of the best clubs in Asia," said Alves.
"I have heard a lot about football in Qatar from my compatriot Felipe Jorge who is playing also with Al Sadd.
"I'm looking to be the top scorer of the Qatari league next season. I'm happy to have two other Brazilians in the team and hopefully we will be a successful trio in the league.
"I want to have great success with Al Sadd just like I did with Heerenveen in Holland in 2007 where I scored a lot of goals and I hope that I can do the same with Al Sadd."
