Alves blow for Boro

Middlesbrough striker Afonso Alves is unlikely to be available for their final two games of the season after suffering a suspected broken foot against Newcastle. Alves was stretchered off in the first half of Middlesbrough's 3-1 defeat at St James' Park in the Tyne-Tees derby. The Brazilian sustained the injury in a challenge with Newcastle midfielder Nicky Butt and Boro boss Gareth Southgate fears the worst for his striker. "Afonso Alves looks like he may have broken his foot and losing him when we did was crucial," admitted Southgate. Alves is due to undergo scans on the injury on Tuesday and it seems highly unlikely he will be feature in Boro's final two games against Aston Villa and Fulham as they look to drag themselves out of relegation trouble.
