The agent of former Middlesbrough striker Massimo Maccarone has denied that his client slammed former Riverside boss Steve McClaren as a hypocrite.
Maccarone recently sealed a return to Serie A with Siena and has been quoted in the Italian press as saying: "The magnificent McClaren is surely the most hypocritical and false person I have had the misfortune of meeting.
"Only in England can someone with such evident limits become the head of the national team."
However, Paolo Fabbri believes that his client has been badly misquoted and says that Maccarone would never be so insulting.
He said: "He was not happy about the technical decisions of the manager, but he is a polite person and he never used these words or expressions.
"He said his experience in England was not very happy because of the technical decisions of the managers Steve McClaren and Gareth Southgate. It was only the technical decisions, nothing more.
"He has expressed a concept and it seems someone has been to work on that declaration."
