Gibson searches for Strachan successor

Boro chairman Steve Gibson now faces the difficult task of replacing Gordon Strachan, with fans' favourite Tony Mowbray favourite. "The appointment is essential," he said. "I have spoken to senior players and asked for their support and spoke to a couple of the local lads I know like Matthew Bates and David Wheater. "The response has been very supportive, they understand how difficult it has been and they accept responsibility for the position we are in now and they want to improve results on the pitch. "We start with a blank piece of paper and some obvious names and we will talk to people we think can improve our football club. "I am not going to talk about specifics or concentrate on one individual because that would not be wise. "There is a list and since the rumour broke about Gordon I have had agents putting forward all sorts of names but I know a lot of people in the game and we will see what happens. "We won't rush into it, we have very capable guys in temporary charge and players who will also respond in a positive way."
