Match Preview
Spalletti wary of Athens Zenit St Petersburg head coach Luciano Spalletti has warned his side not to underestimate beleaguered visitors AEK Athens when the two sides lock horns. The Greek team travel to the Petrovski Stadium currently in the midst of a season marred by turmoil. Dusan Bajevic resigned from his position as head coach at the weekend after AEK's second loss of the season which saw them plummet to 13th in the Greek Super League. The aftermath of the 3-1 away loss to newly-promoted Olympiakos Volos soon overshadowed the result, with angry Greek supporters hurling chairs and debris at Bajevic minutes before he resigned his position in the post-match press conference. It was the second time that the 61-year-old had been subject of the ire of the Enosis fans. Supporters turned on the man who had won them four championships after a pre-season defeat to second-division club Kallithea when fans broke on to the pitch and knocked the Serb to the ground. All this may paint a picture of instability at the Greek side, but Spalletti has warned that AEK's players will be out to impress caretaker manager Bledar Kola, making the clash a difficult tie. "The Greeks are a very good side with potential and skilful players," said the Italian. "I know that they are going through a difficult phase. However each team can develop and play better. "They have a brand new manager for this match and they will fight hard. We should be prepared. "My players know that very well. It would be an error to believe that this will be an easy match." The match pits two sides against each other which both won their opening games of the group stage. Late goals from Nikos Liberopoulos and Nacho Scocco gave AEK a 3-1 win over Hadjuk Split while 2008 UEFA Cup winners Zenit began their Group G campaign with a 3-1 away win over Anderlecht. AEK defender Cristian Nasuti believes he and his team-mates must cut out basic errors if they are to improve. "The trouble is clearly concentration," said the 28-year-old. "There exist certain errors that we should correct. I believe that with the arrival of a young trainer, it will improve. It is essential that the corrections are made now."

Match Report
Zenit thump AEK Zenit St Petersburg heaped more misery on troubled AEK Athens to make it two wins from two in Europa League Group G after a 4-2 victory. Early goals from Tomas Hubocan and Danny Alves put the hosts in control and a reply from Nikos Liberopoulos proved only a brief tonic as Danko Lazovic converted a penalty before half-time. That came after Cristian Nasuti had seen red for a foul, and Lazovic grabbed his side's fourth in the second half before Pantelis Kafes reduced the deficit with a late penalty. AEK went into the match without a manager after Dusan Bajevic resigned at the weekend. The Athens giants' defeat by Olympiakos Volos saw supporters hurl chairs and debris at Bajevic as the club slumped to 13th in the Super League. And things got worse for the Greeks barely a minute into tonight's clash when Hubocan let fly from 25 yards and gave Zenit the lead. With only 13 minutes gone they had doubled their advantage as Lazovic lofted in a corner for the hosts that was met with a brilliant finish from Bruno Alves. Zenit continued to threaten, with Vladimir Bystrov and Alexander Bukharov twice going close, while Rafik Djebbour's effort from inside the area that cleared the bar was the best AEK could muster in the opening 35 minutes. Then, in the 37th minute, the visitors pulled one back out of nothing as Liberopoulos beat Viacheslav Malafeev from 20 yards out. AEK's chances of getting something from the game were almost certainly ended six minutes later, though, when a bad foul on Bukharov by Nasuti resulted in a penalty and a red card for the defender. Lazovic took responsibility for the spot-kick and duly converted with a precise shot into the bottom corner. The same player then put the game well and truly out of sight in the 57th minute when he turned in Aleksandar Lukovic's cross from close range. AEK at least had the final word with their second goal in the 83rd minute, scored by Kafes from the penalty spot after Malafeev brought down Papa Bouba Diop, but it was too little, too late.
