Match Report

Neither team could find a way through some panic-stricken defending in perfect, if cold, conditions for football.

Hartlepool had most of the chances, but perhaps the best chance of the game fell to Yeovil in the second half.

But as conditions became more difficult for both teams with the pitch freezing towards the end, a draw was a fair result overall.

In a goalless first half, both sides hit the woodwork as the match cried out for a good finisher.

Midway through the half, Hartlepool had strong penalty appeals turned down when Nathan Smith appeared to use his hand before clearing a cross from the dangerous Matty Robson.

On the half hour, Gary Liddle hammered in a cross from the Hartlepool right that hit the near post before going behind, much to the relief of Yeovil keeper Josh Wagenaar, who later did well to keep out a goalbound shot from home defender Michael Nelson.

But two minutes before half-time, Smith was within inches of giving Yeovil the lead when his looping shot from wide on the left hit the underside of the home bar before being scrambled clear.

Robson and Kevin Kyle both had free-kicks well saved by Josh Wagenaar at the start of the second half and the Yeovil keeper also did well to save a Liddle shot at the second attempt.

But the best chance of the half - and probably of the game - went Yeovil's way on 75 minutes when sub Aaron Brown had a gaping goal to aim at as Lee Peltier floated in a free-kick, but his header went straight to home keeper Jan Budtz and the chance to grab a shock away win was gone.
