Match Report

Bristol Rovers have yet to beat Yeovil in the League but this stoppage-time draw was celebrated as if they had.

After trailing to a Matthew Rose tap-in just after the hour they were rescued with seconds to go by centre-back Steve Elliott.

Racing up for a final effort he seized on a defensive header to sweep home a left-foot shot from 15 yards.

There was just time for Yeovil to re-start before referee Keith Stroud, who had added on four minutes time for stoppages, blew up. But a niggly match which saw three bookings for either side never really settled.

With both sides having struggled in recent games to score in open play a lack of confidence near goal was clearly on view.

Richard Walker had a wasteful first half for the home side, missing a great chance when Elliott knocked a tempting ball forward before then lifting a 10-yard shot over the top.

They continued to have the better chances but lacked the pace in attack to make use of some good running down the right wing by David Pipe.

On the other flank Lewis Haldane was not getting past Lee Peltier with much regularity and once when he did Terrell Forbes was there to slide in to Yeovil's rescue.

Yeovil waited until almost half-time to get in their first shot, a long-range effort from Rose which Steve Phillips punched away.

There was another scoring chance from the corner but Chris Carruthers was there to clear Scott Guyett's header from under the bar.

The Glovers carried this sense of aggression into the second half and Justin Cochrane was certain he had given them the lead. He wheeled away from his shot to take the congratulations but missed seeing Phillips pull off a remarkable one-handed save.

Their goal in the 61st minute was even more casual but this time home defenders were at fault.

They backed off as Kevin Betsy, on loan to Yeovil from Bristol City, came in from the right. Betsy mis-hit his shot but Rose was steaming through for a tap-in.
