Match Report

Stockport County failed to make the record books as their run of eight consecutive away wins was brought to an end by Wycombe Wanderers

A County win would have set a new Football League, but the visitors looked far from record breakers during a scrappy game Adams Park.

The match started in a snow storm and the wintry weather seemed to freeze the players and neither keeper was called upon to make a save in a dire first half.

The game opened up after the break as the players emerged for the second half to brilliant sunshine.

The improved weather seemed to stir the players into action and within minutes both sides went close.

First Scott McLeish's header deflected wide off Michael Rose before Stockport charged upfield and Anthony Pilkington forced a smart save from Frank Fielding in the home goal.

Fielding was the busier keeper in the second half and was lucky not to be sent off after bringing down Liam Dickinson with a reckless challenge outside the box.

Referee Paul Miller took a lenient view and the resulting free-kick was curled wide.

Chairboys manager Paul Lambert, taking charge of 100th game at the club, rang the changes midway through the second half adding John Sutton and Sergio Torres to the fray.

Torres added some much-needed urgency in midfield and Wycombe piled on the pressure late as they looked to snatch the win.

With ten minutes left on the clock Stefan Oakes' free-kick was parried by John Ruddy and Tommy Doherty then blasted wide as Stockport failed to clear.

But it was the visitors that nearly stole the win late on and Fielding was at full stretch to acrobatically turn away Dickson's inswinging corner.
