Match Preview

Donnelly set for Chairboys bow Wycombe will have new signing Simon Donnelly available when they host Gillingham. The Swansea midfielder, who has joined Wanderers on loan for the rest of the season, was unavailable for the 2-1 win at Cheltenham on Saturday but is now free to make his debut against the Gills. Striker Scott Rendell could return to the starting line-up after overcoming illness and the death of his son to make the bench in the New Year`s Day fixture. However, Chairboys boss Gary Waddock may elect to name an unchanged side for the third match running, with Ben Strevens continuing to partner Stuart Beavon up front. Striker Jon-Paul Pittman remains a long-term absentee as he continues his recovery from a ruptured knee tendon which has kept him out since September. Winger Josh Parker (foot) remains the only other long-term injury concern and the midfielder will not feature for at least six weeks. In-form Gillingham have no new problems ahead of the encounter. Jack Payne was in the squad against Stevenage on New Year`s Day after an ankle ligament injury. The defender making his comeback as a substitute late on and he could be involved once again. Boss Andy Hessenthaler has limited options should he wish to make changes, with Andy Barcham and Mark Bentley probably the most likely candidates to come into the team. Striker Dennis Oli is still nursing an ankle injury and is likely to remain on the sidelines along with Chris Palmer and Tony Sinclair, who have knee and foot problems respectively. Five successive victories have lifted Gills into the play-off places.

Match Report

Winfield ends Gills' winning run Dave Winfield scored the only goal as Wycombe kept their promotion push on track with victory against previously in-form Gillingham. It brought to an end the Gills' excellent recent run of five straight wins as they failed to avenge the 3-0 defeat that relegated them from League One last May Gillingham almost scored inside the second minute when Matt Lawrence got on the end of Curtis Weston's long throw but could only blaze over after using his chest to control. Wycombe's best chance of a dull first half came when Ben Strevens was unable to direct his header from Stuart Beavon's deflected cross on target. The hosts broke the deadlock in the 64th minute, when a Matt Bloomfield corner was headed against the crossbar by Scott Rendell and defender Winfield nodded in the rebound from close range. The Gills came within a whisker of equalising with 16 minutes left when substitute Luke Rooney played in Cody McDonald, whose looping effort came back off the bar.
