Wycombe missed a great chance to enhance their play-off chances when they failed to win at Grimsby. With the home side now without a win in six matches, the three points were there for the taking for Wycombe, but they never seriously threatened to score the goal that would have been enough. It is 55 games since the Chairboys' last goalless draw and the club with the best away record in League Two were expecting three points at Blundell Park. Wycombe keeper Frank Talia was never tested, although to be fair his opposite number Anthony Williams only had two routine stops to make all afternoon. A swirling wind made it difficult for both sides with often a long pass beating the forward players and running out of play for a goal kick. Perhaps the clearest chance of the game fell to Wycombe in the 18th minute. Leading scorer Nathan Tyson broke clear and, despite looking yards offside, was allowed to run on only to drag his shot wide of the far post. Just before half-time there was a half-chance for Grimsby when striker Andy Parkinson was brought down by defender Mike Williamson who was booked but a poor free-kick materialised. In the second half Wycombe tried to step things up and towards the end of the game brought on two attacking players from the subs bench. It had by no means been a dirty or niggly game but Wycombe assistant manager Steve Brown was dispatched to the stand for not giving the ball back to Grimsby at a throw-in. He had previously been warned by the referee and when it happened again the outcome was inevitable. In the closing stages the away side threatened to snatch a winner but it was that sort of game when threat did not turn into anything more.
