Match Report

League Two's top two teams played out a rip-roaring three-three draw that keeps them both in line for promotion.

Leaders Brentford went ahead twice against second-placed Wycombe Wanderers, but needed a late goal from loan striker Sam Williams to ensure they got the share of the spoils.

Another Brentford loanee, Jordan Rhodes, had given the hosts the lead when he latched onto an Alan Bennett knock down to score inside the first 90 seconds.

But Wycombe were soon level when John Akinde, also on loan, claimed he had headed a Tommy Doherty cross, although it looked suspiciously like a Mark Phillips own-goal.

Brentford were back ahead inside seven minutes when a David Hunt free-kick flew across the face of goal and into the far corner.

At that point Brentford held the upper hand and looked like they would take control, but Wycombe were level by half-time.

A Craig Woodman corner was not dealt with by the home defence and John Mousinho used his strength to ease Marcus Bean out of the way and head home.

The first half had been a brilliant advert for the division and the second continued in the same manner.

Akinde gave Wycombe the lead for the first time two minutes after the restart when he robbed substitute Brett Johnson, outpaced Bennett and lashed the ball in at the near post.

Once they had the lead, Wycombe slowed the game down but the sending off of Tommy Doherty for an elbow on Hunt midway through the second half swung the game Brentford's way.

They got the equaliser they deserved with nine minutes let when Will Antwi missed a ball into the box and Charlie MacDonald set up Williams to lash home.
