Match Report

League Two leaders Wycombe suffered another surprise setback when they were beaten by second-to-bottom Bournemouth at Dean Court.

Wycombe, who were beaten at home by struggling Grimsby last week, never looked like making amends on the south coast.

But they were given a soft lead in the ninth minute when Cherries goalkeeper David Button, on loan from Tottenham, failed to control a back-pass and let in Matt Harrold for an easy goal.

Bournemouth introduced big striker Steve Fletcher, re-signed from Crawley, and he was a constant problem for the Wycombe defence.

Bournemouth's equaliser came in the 24th minute when Brett Pitman blasted home a 30-yard free-kick for his fifth goal of the season.

Bournemouth scored again in the 32nd minute when Pitman took a corner on the left and Jason Pearce was unmarked when he headed home at the far post.

Joel Ward had a firm header well saved by Scott Shearer in the first minute after the break and disappointed Wycombe manager, Peter Taylor, made a double substitution in the 52nd minute, sending on Matt Phillips and Scott McGleish, but it made little difference.

Shearer had to make a superb save to deny Pitman before Bournemouth added a third in the 64th minute.

Jake Thomson got down the right and his intended centre looped over Shearer into the corner of the net.

Wycombe improved towards the end and Button made a good save at full stretch from Lewis Spence while a header by David McCracken struck the bar.

There was further disappointment for Wycombe with booking for Tommy Doherty for dissent and Matt Bloomfield for failing to retreat at a free-kick.

Substitute McGleish was also cautioned for disputing a decision but it was another bad day for Wycombe, their second defeat in a week, after going the rest of the season with only one.
