Match Report

The Red Dragons' survival battle continued with an excellent display and three points against high-flying Darlington.

Brian Little's new-look side made it four games undefeated as Wrexham did wonders for their chances of avoiding the drop from League Two, something which looked a certainty a few weeks ago.

It took a great save by Gavin Ward in the 13th minute to deny Steve Foster and that was the only real effort on the home goal throughout the game.

Wrexham took the lead in the 21st minute when defender Steve Evans came up and thumped a fierce header past David Stockdale from Danny Sonner's corner.

Wrexham took complete control and should have calmed their fans' nerves before half-time with Stuart Nicholson, Drewe Broughton and Chris Llewellyn all missing chances to put the Quakers out of sight.

Wrexham had to defend in numbers in the second half but Mike Williams was outstanding along with Evans as they successfully kept the visitors at bay.

Substitute Michael Proctor headed wide in the 79th minute but seven minutes later he claimed all three points for the home side when ne collected a throughball from Neil Roberts before going on to beat Stockdale.

Wrexham defeated Milton Keynes Dons at the start of their unbeaten run and manager Brian Little said after their win against Darlo: "It might have been a lucky win on that day but against Darlington, who are a good side, we matched them in every department.

"The new signings, 11 in all, have made a difference but the lads who were already at the club have also played their part."
