The Red Dragons' 87-year League history ended in dreadful fashion with fans booing the side off the Racecourse Ground pitch at the final whistle.

Many fans however had left the ground by then and missed Wrexham's only high spot, a stoppage-time penalty blasted home by skipper Neil Roberts.

Manager Brian Little again fielded a side of youngsters which had no real answer to the tougher and more experienced visitors.

Though Andy Fleming and Gareth Evans gave a good account of themselves, it was not until the second-half introduction of subs Wes Baynes and Neil Taylor that the home side were allowed to get into the game but by that time they had a 2-0 mountain to climb.Chris Llewellyn had a great chance in the 57th minute but, with only the keeper to beat, he hit high and wide from 12 yards. A few minutes later at the other end Shaun Whalley made it 3-0 to the visitors.

The game started in bizarre fashion when home defender Shaun Pejic bent down to allow a Robert Grant header to go to Michael Jones but it struck his back and went through the keeper's legs to give Accrington a seventh-minute lead.

In the 28th minute Peter Cavanagh made it 2-0 at the far post connecting with a left-wing cross with the Wrexham defence all at sixes and sevens.

Wrexham had little power up front though skipper Roberts tried hard to shake some sort of pride into his side but it just did not happen.
