Wigan have a corner which Rodallega will swing in. It comes in low and is flicked into the air at the front post and Boyce meets it with a high header but sends it over the bar.

Great play from Beattie as he makes a good break to the byline after a smart turn and cuts the ball back to Fuller but he miscontrols and Wigan are able to scramble it away.

A straight long ball down the field is poorly dealt with by Abdoulaye Faye and it runs for Rodallega who strikes it on the volley but drags it across the six yard box.

35mins

Stoke win their first corner of the half after some positive attacking play from Fuller. Lawrence whips the ball into the box and Kingson comes but misses it. The whistle had already gone because the corner went out of play before coming into the box

33mins

Melchiot is forced to concede a long-throw that Delap will deliver. The throw-in comes in and the ball sails over the scrambling Kingson and ripples the net but the home fans' cheers are cut-short as nobody touched it and its only a goal-kick.

A rather amusing moment for the fans as a Delap long-throw sailing into the breeze is blown back out of the area much to the benefit of the Wigan defence.

Excellent defending from Titus Bramble as he quickly retrieves a loose ball to prevent a throw-in for Stoke before cleverly playing the ball back off Fuller to earn Wigan the throw-in. Clearly the danger of Delap's long arm in mind.

5mins

A positive and vibrant start from both sides in a game that in truth has very little riding on it with both sides safe from relegation. Scharner is playing in a very advacned role just behind Rodallega for Wigan which certainly wasn't expected.

2mins

A high ball aimed at Rodallega who rises well to head the ball down into the path of Scharner breaking from midfield to strike at goal but Sorensen makes a good save and holds the ball well.

0mins

Lee Probert is the referee today and with a sharp blast on his whistle, the game gets underway.

0mins

Richard Kingson continues to deputise for the injured Kirkland in goal and Rodallega retains his place up-front after scoring midweek. Antonio Valencia doesn't feature at all and Mido is left on the bench by Steve Bruce.

0mins

The on-loan Henri Camara is inelidgible for today's game againt his parent club but it is unlikely he would have started anyway with Fuller and Beattie leading the line for the Potters. Andy Wilkinson has recovered from injury so he starts.

Hello and welcome to the Brittania Stadium where Stoke, on the back of securing their safety, come up against a Wigan side who have struggled for form after reaching the forty point mark many weeks ago.

Match Preview

Stoke City and Wigan Athletic meet at the Britannia Stadium with both clubs having little to play for in the closing weeks of the season.

The Potters made sure that they will still be in the top-flight next term by winning 2-1 at Hull City last weekend, with Tony Pulis' side having now won four of their last seven games.

He said after the weekend triumph: "It means everything and to prove a lot of people wrong is nice. The players have been smashing in every game we have played.

"I'm absolutely delighted. It's been a tough season for us, but we have kept going. We have been battle-hardened.

"We didn't get off to the best of starts and we have had spells in the season when things have not gone our way, but the players have always believed in it."

Pulis currently has Danny Higginbotham, Amady Faye, Sailif Diao and Mamady Sidibe sidelined by injury, but the win at Hull came without any further worries.

Wigan head to the Potteries boosted by an impressive display against Manchester United in midweek, even though the JJB Stadium clash ended in a 2-1 defeat.

Boss Steve Bruce was enthused by the performance, having seen his side slump in form in recent weeks.

He said: "I'm hugely disappointed for the players because they deserved something from the game.

"Changing the mentality has been difficult over the last few weeks but it was back here. It is performances like that which have got us to where we were in the league."

January recruit Hugo Rodallega impressed in scoring for the second game in a row, while goalkeeper Chris Kirkland (back) and Amr Zaki (knee) both missed the game and are unlikely to return at the weekend.

Match Report

Ricardo Fuller and James Beattie fired Stoke City to a tenth home victory of the season as Wigan's winless streak was extended to seven games.

Fuller brilliantly netted his tenth of the campaign in the 69th minute and Beattie struck seven minutes later, heading his seventh in 15 starts since a January move from Sheffield United.

The Stoke fans were in party mood for their last home game of a memorable first season in the Premier League.

Tony Pulis' team had defied most punters by securing survival with something to spare and the celebrations began long before kick-off.

Big defender Abdoulaye Faye collected all seven of Stoke's player of the season awards and Pulis received a standing ovation as he jogged to the dugout.

When the action did get underway, Wigan threatened to spoil the party as Paul Scharner's shot from Hugo Rodallega's header drew a fine save from Thomas Sorensen.

And Sorensen was soon in action again when he tipped over a long range effort from South Korea international Won-Hee Cho.

Stoke were struggling to get into their stride as a strong and gusting wind whipped around the Britannia Stadium.

But there was a comical moment in the 32nd minute when one of Rory Delap's jet-propelled long throws sailed straight into the back of the Wigan net.

A goal-kick was the decision of referee Lee Probert as the ball failed to make contact with any player before flying past visiting keeper Richard Kingson.

Pulis made his first substitution at half-time, with Danny Pugh replacing Leon Cort and positional changes for Ryan Shawcross and Andy Wilkinson.

Stoke finally began to build up a head of steam with Glenn Whelan orchestrating from midfield and Liam Lawrence delivering some dangerous crosses.

Wigan still carried a threat on the break as Charles N'Zogbia wasted one chance and Maynor Figueroa fired narrowly wide from another.

But Fuller broke the deadlock when he twisted and turned past several challenges before whipping a right-foot shot into the top right-hand corner of Kingson's net.

The goal knocked the stuffing out of Wigan and Beattie nodded an easy second after Matthew Etherington beat Kingson to the ball on the edge of the penalty area.
