Downing takea a corner, as it comes in Parnaby goes to ground, but penalty claims are waved away by the referee

Both sides are pressing for a winner, but Boro seem the more likely to take the 3 points

Kilbane trys an ambitious shot from 30yards out that goes high and wide

Viduku rolls his marker in trade mark fashion, and then rolls the ball to Arca who goes to crack it first-time, but Scharner pulls out an excellent tackle from nowhere

Viduku flicks the ball on to Yakubu, but Pollitt comes storming out to thwart the striker

Downing places a curling cross to the near-post that misses Arca and Morrison and goes out for a goal kick

Morrison spins and shots but is shot is too weak to cause the Wigan Athletic keeper any problems

Stewart Downing trys a long range effort, but Pollitt gets down well to his right to save

George Boeteng charges into space, but is intercepted at the last minute, but Boro are still pilling on the pressure

Viduku takes a shot on, but the pace of the shot is gone after a deflection off Boyce, Pollitt collects with ease

Referre Steve Bennett seems obviously to a blatant handball by Skoko, as another decision goes against Middlesbrough

Boro have started well in the second half, with Downing continuing his influence from the first period. Wigan struggling to keep the ball.

Good work from Morrison around the box as he pokes the ball towards Downing who volleys but again its straight at Pollitt

Viduku plays Yakubu in who surely should score, but he fires straight at the goalkepper

Handball by Latics defender Hall sees Boro get a freekick in a great position, but Viduku can't get it up and over the wall and it doesn't trouble Kirkland

Kirland looks to have taken a nasty bash to the head, and needs treatment and may not return after half-time

Downing again puts in a super ball, but no one seems willing th gamble and Kirkland comes out to catch it

Pogatetz looks to play an ambitious ball through to Viduku, but it flys out of play without bouncing. Middlesbrough just can't keep the ball

Boro break with Downing, who cut the ball back to James Morrison who drills the ball low, forcing Kirkland to make an excellent save. Had Boro scored Paul Jewell would have been livid, as Scharner stayed down after a nasty tackle

Schwarzer again saves his side, this time Leighton Baines trys a 20 yard effort which Schwarzer again keeps out

Schwarzer makes a amazing save from point blank range from Camara, who finds himself free 6yards from goal

McCulloch and Scharner get in eachothers way, eventually Scharner places his shot, but it is just wide

Wigan are keeping the ball well with some excellent build up play, but finding it hard to create a chance.

Boro look to reply after going behind in an even match. The ball is spilled to Yakubu after a cross is half-cleared by the Wigan defence. Yakubu trys a curler from 20 yards out, but it fizzes around the the outside of the post

Josip Skoko plays in a great ball into the box, with McCulloch ghosting in behind Pogatetz, who clatters him. Penalty to Wigan

Boro look to counter with Arca playing a great ball to Yakubu, who plays a clever one-two with Viduku. Boyce mis-times a tackle on Yakubu, but referre Steve Bennett doesnt give a stonewall freekick and play continues

Boro seem to be running everything at the moment, dispatching the ball to Downing at every oppourtunity. Wigan still seem a threat on occasion, with Camara providing their threat

Downing is causing Wigan problems everytime he gets the ball. He fires it in, with Yakubu attacking the ball. Kirkland makes the save, but can't keep hold of the ball, Morrison trys to convert but his shot flys over the bar. A great chance for Boro

Again Downing puts in a terrific ball for Viduku to attack, but Emmerson Boyce gets across to clear for Wigan, its a very open start for both sides so far

Downing switches the ball to James Morrison, who takes the wrong choice and takes the shot on when both Viduka and Yakubu were waiting at the back post

A Wigan corner sees Paul Scharner rise just 6yards out, forcing Schwarzer to make a reaction save to tip the ball over the bar

Camara does brilliantly in the corner, a deflection off Woodgate nearly saw Lee McCulloch was nearly in

Boro are on top early on having a couple of corners in the opening stages, Downing in particular looks lively already today.

Downing gets behind the full-back and fires the ball across the face of the goal, James Morrison at the far post stretches but can't get on the end of it. Any touch would have been one nil Boro.

Wigan's only change to a side that got a valuable away victory at West Ham in midweek is a forced change for Paul Jewell. Emile Heskey is suspended, and will be replaced by the speed Henri Camara.

Middlesbrough welcome back Mark Viduka after a lenghty absence, with Malcolm Christie dropping to the bench after an extended run in the side. Julio Arca also returns to the side.
