Match Report

Wigan Athletic's recent revival under Steve Bruce will be tested with the visit of in-form Everton to the JJB Stadium.

Under the newly-installed manager, the Latics have picked up 14 points from a possible 24 and have moved out of the relegation zone.

Last weekend they were 1-0 winners over bottom club Derby County courtesy of substitute Antoine Sibierski's decisive strike eight minutes from full-time.

However, despite their upturn in fortunes, Wigan remain level on points with Sunderland in the final relegation spot and, having suffered the drop with former club Birmingham City two years ago, Bruce is taking nothing for granted.

"To turn it around has been very, very pleasing, and all credit to the players," he said.

"You can see there is a little bit of confidence, a little bit of belief coming back, and when you are like that, it is a little bit easier than trying to get a team out of a rut, which they were in."

Bruce looks set to recall Jason Koumas to the starting line-up after the Wales international came off the bench last weekend following a recent hamstring injury.

New signing Wilson Palacios made his debut in place of Koumas against Derby and impressed so Antonio Valencia's place could be in jeopardy.

At the back, Kevin Kilbane will continue as a makeshift left-back should Bruce fail to land transfer target and former Spurs defender Erik Edman in time.

Everton will be looking to consolidate fifth place in the table when they make the short trip to the JJB Stadium.

The Toffees were 1-0 winners over Manchester City last weekend to keep on the coat-tails of the top four.

That result ended a mini-slump in form for the Merseysiders, who lost 2-1 in the first leg of their Carling Cup semi-final to Chelsea just days after being the victims of an FA Cup giant-killing at the hands of League One side Oldham Athletic.

But despite their patchy cup form, Everton remain strong favourites to at least qualify for the UEFA Cup via the Premier League as they've lost just seven times all season.

Manager David Moyes is likely to stick with the same starting 11 which took to the field last weekend with Yakubu, Steven Pienaar and Joseph Yobo away at the Africa Cup of Nations.

New loan signing Manuel Fernades is likely to be named on the bench alongside Leighton Baines, who joined the Toffees from Wigan in a £6million deal in the summer.

Leon Osman is also pushing for a recall to the bench following his return from a broken toe.
