And Andy O'Brien follow him into the very same book for tripping Sears just outside the penalty area.
Scott Parker is the latest to find himself in the book for a tackle from behind on Gardner.
Craig Bellamy trips O'Brien and picks up a yellow for his troubles.
Taylor has been booked in the aftermath for his over-zealous goal celebration.

Joey O'Brien takes the place of Fabrice Muamba as Bolton continue to hold on.
Freddie Sears is on to replace Matthew Etherington fresh from scoring four goals for the West Ham Reserves in midweek.
The visitors have done well to weather the immediate storm after Cole's header and now the game is settling back down again.
Johan Elmander has put a good shift in in attack and Matthew Taylor replaces him now to give fresh life to the Bolton strikeforce.
As if by the flick of a switch West Ham and Upton Park are alive and kicking as Behramu strides into attack to fire just wide from long range.
WEST HAM 1-2 BOLTON. Bolton now make an error defensively at a corner as Samuel heads the ball back into his own six-yard box and Carlton COLE rises to head West Ham back into the game.
Jaaskelainen follows Green's earlier example as he fumbles a free-kick but there is no West Ham player anywhere near him to pounce on the loose ball.
West Ham's defending is getting worse! Elmander flicks the ball on but is able to collect it himself before cutting the ball back and Upson fires it at Green from all of two yards but the keeper does superbly to prevent an own goal.
Gavin McCann is hardly a regular goalscorer - in fact he hardly ever shoots - but he tries a precise curling effort from 25 yards that bends just a fraction too much.
Valon Behrami tries to burst away down the right but Nolan stops him in his tracks - and is unfortunate to pick up a yellow card.
With Bellamy on, the home side have reverted to a standard 4-4-2 formation and they will presumably try to use his pace in behind the Bolton backline.
A slightly surprising change from Zola as Di Michele is hauled off and the returning Craig Bellamy is on to try and spark life into the Hammers.
Bolton break from the corner and Behrami slices down Elmander before the Swede can enter the box but Faubert is unhappy and gets himself booked for dissent.
Much much better from the Hammers! Clever movement and passing between Di Michele and Parker gives Cole a half-chance and he forces a stunning save from Jaaskelainen.
Bolton are pressing the ball really well and West Ham can't seem to get themselves out of their own half despite having all the possession.
The fans are already a little quieter as Ilunga lofts a hopeful and innaccurate cross into the Bolton area and Jaaskelainen shows Green how it's done as he collects calmly.
The second period is underway at Upton Park as 'I'm forever blowing bubbles' rings out around the stadium - but Bolton will want to silence them again.
HALF TIME: WEST HAM 0-2 BOLTON. West Ham have been in total disarray at the back and two unusual mistakes from Rob Green are the difference between the sides at the half-time interval as Bolton make their chances count.
Ilunga is back with us with a bandage wrapped around his wrist and the fourth official has indicated a minimum of two minutes added time.
West Ham cannot deal with Kevin Davies at set-pieces and everytime Bolton lift the ball into the box he looks like scoring or creating a goal.
More problems for West Ham as Ilunga has collected a nasty gash to his left hand and is now off the field to receive treatment and probably a hefty number of stitches.
You can guarantee that Bolton are going to fire in shots from all angles now with Green looking decidedly shaky between the sticks.

WEST HAM 0-1 BOLTON. A howler from Rob Green gifts Bolton the lead as he fails to collect a simple looping cross and Kevin DAVIES is alert enough to lob the ball over his head and into the empty net.
Di Michele looks like the biggest threat for the home side so far in this game and they come alive when the Italian is in possession but Bolton are keeping a very close eye on him at all times.
It's scrappy and end-to-end here and there are few clear-cut chances being created by either side as it becomes a midfield battle.
Good effort from Di Michele who tries to wrap his left foot around the ball from the edge of the box but Jaaskelainen has his angles worked out and watches it wide.
Bolton enjoying a series of corners but the delivery is not good enough on any of them and eventually Rob Green claims one for himself.
Wonderful solo effort from Herita Ilunga who beats three defenders before his attempted cross-shot is deflected away by Cahill.
Chance for Bolton! West Ham stand off a loose ball and Gardner nips in to poke the ball through for Elmander but his shot is a tame on that Green is happy to gather.
Clever from Carlton Cole on the edge of the box as he turns Andy O'Brien before trying a curling left-footed effort that is just too high.
Thankfully the weather is starting to brighten up for the players but the pitch looks zippy so we should be in for a fast-paced game.
Bolton have responded well to the early West Ham pressure and Gary Cahill has a chance at the far-post from a corner but takes his eye off it and it skims off his forehead and wide.
Mark Noble picks up a rather pointless yellow card early on for a late lunge on Steinsson - he is now walking a tightrope.
Good start from the Hammers who have an early half-chance as Julien Faubert bends in a clever free-kick that Jaaskelainen does well to hold.
Mike Dean is today's official and he gets things underway at a sodden Upton Park.

West Ham: Green, Faubert, Neill, Upson, Ilunga, Behrami, Parker, Noble, Di Michele, Etherington, Cole
Bolton were victims to terrible refereeing last weekend at Old Trafford and Gary Megson may well use that to fire up his side for today's match.
The Carlos Tevez affair has overshadowed the start to Gianfranco Zola's reign in East London where the Italian has enjoyed a more than respectable opening to his management career.
Welcome to Upton Park where West Ham attempt to put off-field problems behind them against struggling Bolton.
It was an afternoon to forget for Robert Green as Bolton trotted to their first away win of the season at Upton Park, while West Ham slumped to their first home defeat of the campaign. Two first-half howlers saw the Hammers keeper hand goals to Kevin Davies and Gary Cahill and, although Carlton Cole pulled one back for West Ham midway through the second half, Matthew Taylor sealed victory for the visitors thanks to a blistering 86th-minute free-kick. With a hat-trick of home wins from their first three outings at Upton Park, the fifth-placed Hammers were unchanged from the side that recorded their first away victory of the season at Fulham, last Saturday. And their was little sign of the disastrous afternoon ahead of them as Gianfranco Zola's confident team kicked off in determined mood. Indeed, Julien Faubert soon forced Jussi Jaaskelainen to save his early free-kick, before Mark Noble quickly went into referee Mike Dean's book for a skidding tackle on Gretar Steinsson. Despite losing at Manchester United last weekend, Bolton - in 17th spot and pointless on their travels - were also unchanged and they should have taken the lead with a dozen minutes on the clock, but after being played in by Ricardo Gardner, Johan Elmander wastefully steered his shot straight at the relieved Green. On 20 minutes, a quick-throw from the Hammers keeper allowed Noble to play in the supporting Scott Parker, who invited David Di Michele to bend a 25-yarder just inches wide of Jaaskelainen's right-hand post. Certainly that free-flowing move typified the brand of total football that Zola has been trying to introduce down West Ham way and when Valon Behrami climaxed a similar raid with a rising 18-yarder, the East Enders among the crowd of 33,715 were sensing that a goal was not too far away. Those rain-sodden supporters they were right. But sadly for them, it was Bolton who were destined to break the deadlock with two quick-fire goals that Green will not enjoy watching on the re-run. On the half-hour, the Hammers' keeper dropped Jlloyd Samuel's hanging cross from the left under pressure both from his team-mate Herita Ilunga and Davies, and he could only look on in horror as the Bolton striker emerged from the unsightly scramble to hook the loose ball into an unguarded net and claim his fourth goal of the campaign. And just three minutes later, when Davies nodded on Andy O'Brien's flighted free-kick, Green was left to bury his face in his white gloves once more, after he found Steinsson's blistering low shot too hot to handle and Cahill eluded Ilunga's lunge to bundle Bolton into a two-goal interval lead. That double-whammy left West Ham with a mountainous second-half task, but within five minutes of the restart, only the woodwork prevented Cole from reducing the arrears, when Jaaskelainen athletically clawed the striker's looping 18-yarder onto his left-hand post. Shortly afterwards, Craig Bellamy replaced Di Michele as Zola looked to keep up the attacking impetus and after the Bolton keeper saved Parker's stinging 20-yarder at the second attempt, West Ham did finally beat the flying Finn. Midway through the second period, Matthew Etherington's corner was nodded on by Matthew Upson for Cole to claim his fourth goal of the season, with a header that crashed into the net off the underside of the crossbar. Behrami then sent a 20-yarder whistling past the angle before Zola introduced teenager Freddie Sears in a desperate bid to find a late leveller. But it was a Wanderers substitute who had the last word, when Taylor drilled a simply unstoppable 30-yard free-kick past the West Ham wall to seal Bolton's first away points of the season.
