Match Report

West Ham United and Newcastle United meet at Upton Park in a classic end of season mid-table clash.

The Hammers and the Magpies have only the opportunity to make up a place or two at stake, but both managers will want a win for very different reasons.

Irons boss Alan Curbishley has had to deal with a lengthy injury list throughout the campaign and was less than impressed at his side being booed off after last week's 2-1 home win over relegated Derby County.

He said after the game: "Week-in, week-out, we cannot keep a settled side. People talk to me about last year and the run-in. Well the last nine games I think we used 13 players.

"I have never been in that position this year, let alone been able to pick from a fully-fit squad.

"This group of players have stood up most weeks to be counted when we have unbelievable problems. So, I think we should have more appreciation."

Curbishley current absentees list contains James Collins, Anton Ferdinand, Matthew Upson, Danny Gabbidon, Lee Bowyer, Kieron Dyer, Matthew Etherington and Craig Bellamy.

However, Lucas Neill, Mark Noble and Freddie Ljungberg all returned to action last weekend and came through unscathed against the Rams.

Newcastle boss Kevin Keegan will be hoping his side can maintain their recent upsurge in form, with the Magpies unbeaten in their last six games.

Skipper Michael Owen has led the revival with six goals in his last six games, including a double in the 2-0 derby win over Sunderland last time out.

Keegan has been boosted by further good news on the injury front this week, saying: "Just about everybody will be back and available for selection.

"Emre, James Milner and Stephen Carr are okay and Claudio Cacapa will be back in full training and we didn't lose anyone through injury against Sunderland, so that's good."

Shay Given (groin) is the only major casualty, with Steve Harper continuing in goal in the Irishman's absence.
