Match Report

Middlesbrough aim to continue their recent revival by beating inconsistent and injury-ravaged West Ham United at the Riverside Stadium on Saturday.

Just over three weeks ago Boro looked set for a long winter of struggle when they were beaten 3-0 on Teesside by Aston Villa, but Tuncay's late equaliser at Reading heralded an upturn in fortunes.

The Turkey international was on the scoresheet again in the dramatic 2-1 victory against Premier League leaders Arsenal and found the net for the third successive game in Saturday's narrow 1-0 win at rock-bottom Derby County.

The three-match unbeaten run has eased the pressure on Gareth Southgate and lifted Boro up to 14th in the table, four points clear of the relegation zone.

Southgate will once again be without Mido this weekend although the former Tottenham striker hopes to be back in action early in the new year as he battles back from a groin problem.

The 24-year-old Egypt international has featured in only seven Premier League matches for Boro so far this season and is joined on the sidelines by Andrew Taylor (ankle), Brad Jones (thigh) and Matthew Bates (knee), while Fabio Rochemback is suspended.

Meanwhile, Julio Arca is involved in a race against time to face the Hammers after picking up a knock in training last week that forced him to miss the win at Pride Park.

Middlesbrough will not find it easy to clinch their third successive three-point haul though, as Alan Curbishley's side have saved their best form for their travels.

Four of West Ham's six Premier League wins this season have come away from Upton Park, and they were 1-0 victors at Blackburn Rovers earlier this month in their last away clash.

Since then they have been beaten twice at home by Everton in the Carling Cup and League and Curbishley continues to be frustrated by a lengthy injury list.

Carlton Cole is suspended for the game, but also has a hip injury, while Julien Faubert, Craig Bellamy, Anton Ferdinand, Danny Gabbidon, Matthew Etherington, Luis Boa Morte, Calum Davenport, Lee Bowyer, Kieron Dyer and Bobby Zamora are all expected to miss the trip to the north-east.

Last season at the Riverside Stadium, Boro beat the Hammers 1-0, but they lost 3-0 to Curbishley's side in the capital in September.
