Match Preview

Jones up for the cup Defender Billy Jones claims he is "desperate" for a good cup run with West Brom. The Baggies are looking to build on last season's excellent eighth place in the Barclays Premier League - the club's best finish for 32 years - and Jones sees the Capital One Cup as an excellent opportunity. Steve Clarke's side enter the competition as Football League newcomers Newport visit the The Hawthorns in the second round and Jones insists all at Albion will be taking the game seriously. The 26-year-old said: "It is big for us. "Some managers take it differently, swapping and changing players, but from the moment the gaffer walked through the door he said he wanted to win a cup. "That is our aim again this year. I am sure we will go out with a strong XI and see how far we can go. "I am desperate for a good cup run. There are players in the dressing room who have won the cup and say how great it is. "We want that as a group so we will go out on Tuesday with a team to win." West Brom will have to make an enforced change in goal with Ben Foster out after injuring his ankle in Saturday's goalless Premier League draw at Everton. Boaz Myhill hopes to return from a wrist injury to take his place but third-choice Luke Daniels, who played the closing stages at Goodison Park, is on standby to feature again. Clarke will consider other changes and new signings Diego Lugano, Scott Sinclair and Matej Vydra could get some action. Justin Edinburgh believes his Newport side have nothing to lose. The Exiles, celebrating their first season back in the Football League after a 25-year absence, knocked out Sky Bet Championship outfit Brighton 3-1 in round one after extra time at The Amex. And the former Tottenham defender, who has overseen a Wembley victory and a solid start to their league campaign, is now plotting a further Capital One Cup upset against Steve Clarke's men. "It will be another fantastic night for the football club," he told the South Wales Argus. "If you can't get a home tie the next best thing is a trip to a big club and West Brom will be taking it seriously, I'm sure. "It's a great opportunity for my players to test themselves against some top-class players once again. "We have nothing to lose. There will be upsets along the way as we showed at Brighton." Tuesday's tie against a side that finished eighth in the top flight last season offers captain David Pipe the chance to make amends for a painful cup defeat at the hands of the Baggies. The 29-year-old was part of the Bristol Rovers side that reached the quarter finals of the FA Cup before they were hammered 5-1 by West Brom in front of a global television audience in 2008. "I was on the receiving end of what West Brom can do when I was at Rovers in the FA Cup," he told Wales Online. "It will be a chance for a bit of revenge, that would be really nice. "It's going to be tough. There's a group of clubs in the Premier League who target this sort of silverware and West Brom will be one of them. "West Brom will be a step up again with the class of players they have, so we are going to need to be 100% and go there in good spirits." The Exiles will travel with a stretched squad. Edinburgh last week revealed midfielder Max Porter would be out "for a good few weeks" after he was ordered to rest his long-standing groin injury. Defender Ismail Yakubu (calf) and last season's top scorer Aaron O'Connor (groin) were absent once again at Dagenham on Saturday and will not be fit. Tony James could make his first start of the season after recovering from a hamstring injury but fellow defender Byron Anthony is out of action until January as he continues to recover from a broken ankle.
