Match Preview

Saddlers missing trio Walsall boss Chris Hutchings remains without Darren Byfield, Steve Jones and Richard Taundry for the visit of fellow strugglers Yeovil. Skipper Byfield (knee) has missed the club`s last two games while midfielders Jones (ankle) and Taundry (knee) have been sidelined for over a month. But all three are expected to return to training next week, with a view to being available for the home clash against Exeter, to provide Hutchings with a timely boost. The Saddlers boss enters a crucial time in both his and the club`s season having ended a run of six successive defeats with Tuesday`s goalless draw at Leyton Orient. Walsall`s next four games include winnable home encounters against Yeovil, Exeter and Tranmere, along with a trip to Dagenham. It is fair to say those fixtures may go some way to deciding Hutchings` future with the midlands club currently third from bottom in League One. Yeovil boss Terry Skiverton is boosted by the return of goalkeeper John Sullivan. Sullivan has missed the last three matches with a shoulder injury but is back for the game against the Saddlers. However, he will have to make do with a place on the bench as Skiverton will keep faith with Stephen Henderson as his number one. Captain Craig Alcock has missed the last two matches with a back injury and faces a race against time to be fit for the match at the Banks's Stadium. Young defender Luke Ayling looks likely to keep his place in the starting XI after impressing in Tuesday's 1-1 draw with Southampton and after 20-year-old Billy Gibson also appeared off the bench against the Saints, Skiverton looks set to continue to blood the youngsters. The Glovers will be looking to get back to winning ways against Walsall as they have gone three games without a victory.

Match Report

Saddles sink to bottom Woeful Walsall crashed to the bottom of League One as fellow strugglers Yeovil picked up their first away win of the season at the Banks' Stadium. It was the Saddlers' eighth game without a win and they have lost seven of them, putting manager Chris Hutchings under severe pressure. Watched by their lowest crowd of the season in the League, 3172, they surrendered all three points in the 70th minute when veteran central defender Adam Virgo went up to meet a free-kick from Gavin Williams and scored with a towering header. Walsall were poor, showing little fight when it mattered and Yeovil could have had the game sewn up in the first half if Sam Williams had taken his chances, and at the start of the second half only a brilliant save by home keeper Jonny Brain prevented Dean Bowditch scoring with a fierce free-kick. Walsall put on a burst of pressure in which Glovers' keeper Stephen Henderson pulled off fine saves from Matt Richards and Alex Nicholls but Yeovil were well worth the points.
