Match Preview

Nicholls boost for Saddlers Walsall welcome back Alex Nicholls for the home clash against Swindon. The young striker has completed a three-match suspension incurred after his dismissal in the 2-1 defeat at Brighton. However, with both Darren Byfield and Jon Macken finding the net in last weekend`s 3-2 defeat at Rochdale, Nicholls is unlikely to start at the Banks`s Stadium. Steve Jones (ankle) and Richard Taundry (knee) are the only two players not available to boss Chris Hutchings. Saturday`s clash comes too soon for Jones who should return for next weekend`s trip to Hartlepool, while Taundry is looking at a further couple of weeks on the sidelines. The Saddlers will be desperate for all three points against their Wiltshire rivals having lost their last four games in all competitions. Swindon start life without Charlie Austin. The impressive striker has already found the net four times this season to follow up his 20 goals from last term but the Robins were dealt a huge blow during last weekend`s 1-0 win over Southampton when he dislocated his shoulder. Despite discovering this week he does not needing surgery, Austin is looking at several weeks on the sidelines and his absence means Vincent Pericard will likely partner David Ball or Thomas Dossevi in attack. Winger Alan O`Brien also misses out with a back problem, although first-choice goalkeeper David Lucas is available having missed the Saints victory - Town`s first of the season - with a finger injury.

Match Report

Saddlers slump again Walsall crashed to their seventh league and cup defeat as improving Swindon collected all three points at the Banks's Stadium with a 2-1 win. The Saddlers fell behind after only 10 minutes when David Prutton sent Alan Sheehan racing down the left and his low cross-shot took a deflection as it flew just inside the right-hand post. For a time, Swindon dominated the game and could have had further goals with Vincent Pericard sending a backheel against the post in the 14th minute. But the Saddlers improved and Jon Macken headed over from a Ryan McGivern cross. Walsall dominated the second half but Swindon should have sealed their win earlier in the 55th minute when a rebound put Thomas Dossevi clean through but goalkeeper Jonny Brain managed to block his shot. Walsall pushed forward and were rewarded in the 70th minute when Macken's drive was blocked by Robins' keeper David Lucas, only for the ball to fall to substitute Reuben Reid who slammed home. Walsall went looking for the winner and in the 74th minute defender Clayton McDonald saw his shot come back off a post but while the home players were appealing for a penalty, Swindon hit them on the break and Pericard deflected in a shot from Sheehan to win it.
